Why AI is only as good as your data
Your business is ready for AI when your data is consolidated, structured, clean and current, and governed so software can reach it. AI does not bring its own facts. It reads the data you give it and answers from that. When the data is scattered across spreadsheets and inboxes, or buried in prose a person has to read, or full of duplicates, or locked behind a screen no software can reach, AI does not stop. It improvises. It sounds confident, but it's wrong. The honest readiness score is not your average foundation. It is your weakest one, because that is the foundation AI falls through.
That's how the check above is capped. A strong foundation cannot rescue a broken one. Fix the weakest foundation and the same AI gets far more reliable, no new model required.
The four foundations, and what AI does without them
Each foundation is scored from two plain questions. Here is what goes wrong when one is weak.

- Weak here: AI has to guess which copy of the data is the real one.

- Weak here: AI reads prose and improvises the fields it cannot find.
- Clean and current
- Weak here: AI confidently repeats your duplicates and stale records.
- Governed and reachable
- Weak here: AI either cannot reach the data, or reaches data it should not.
