We came up with the concept for CMyTrees, then designed and built the app. The brief was to create an app that would get more value out of the data in the client's existing B2B platform, and open a path to B2C growth.

CMyTrees app home screen: My Trees, scan a site QR code, and recent sites CMyTrees tree map: located trees with counts across a riverside demo site CMyTrees per-tree figures: CO2 stored and fuel-load equivalents for electricity, gas and petrol
The CMyTrees app: the home screen, interactive tree map, and per-tree carbon and fuel-load data, all drawn from the existing ArborPlan database.

Problem

Our client had built a national tree management platform used by councils and utility companies across Australia. The platform held detailed data on millions of trees: species, health assessments, maintenance schedules, carbon calculations.

All of that data was locked inside the B2B platform. Residents, property owners, and the general public had no way to access information about the trees in their area.

The client saw an opportunity to create a consumer-facing product that would open new value from the existing data, without building separate infrastructure.

Solution

We designed and developed the mobile app from concept to launch. The app pulls data directly from the existing ArborPlan platform. It reads from the full tree database without duplicating the data.

Key features of the CMyTrees app:

  • Interactive map showing tree locations and species
  • Detailed tree profiles with health and maintenance data
  • Carbon calculation for individual trees
  • Fuel load assessment for bushfire risk
  • Reporting tools for residents to flag tree issues

The app was built with Flutter for cross-platform deployment. The backend connects to the existing ArborPlan database, so every update made in the B2B platform appears instantly in the consumer app.

Outcome

CMyTrees won the Australian Business Award for Eco Innovation in 2021. The app demonstrated that existing B2B data, when presented differently, can open entirely new markets.

The client launched a consumer product without building new infrastructure. The same database powers both the professional platform and the public app. Every update to the tree database appears in both systems simultaneously.
